LIBROS PARA NINOS-ZIH in action with BOOK BASKETS, encouragement to working children, and more!

Offering free quality books and education materials to working children and women on the streets and beaches of Zihuatanejo is a reflection of my continued passion to advance literacy, learning and language skills for all.

LIBROS PARA NINOS-ZIH recently completed our summer Back to School campaign and created and handed out 85 new, full personalized backpacks! The recipients are telling me they are so proud, and more self-confident going to school each day with a good backpack, and the supplies they need.

Our September and October project is creating "little free library" BOOK BASKETS strategically placed around the community so children and even adults (we have a half dozen women learning to read and write, too!) can take a free item such a book, activity book, little packet of school supplies, and art or creativity supplies.

Each numbered BOOK BASKET has a sponsor (maybe you?!) and a student guardian to supervise its use. We will check on the Book Baskets continually, and restock them, as needed.

For USD $50 / 1,000 pesos you can be a Book Basket Sponsor, with your name (or one you choose) on the basket label. Any amount donated helps us acquire more book and supplies.

LIBROS PARA NINOS-ZIH operates year 'round, and since its inception in November, 2024, we have assisted over 300 children and families with encouragement, learning kits, backpacks and books.

Most of the children we assist are from working families who vend on the streets and beaches in Zihuatanejo, and some are seasonal vendors from as far away as Chilapa, Chilpancingo and Chiapas. Many of these families are single mother households.

Have learning materials to use while away from home, in a parent's workplace, at home and in school helps these children develop reading skills and successful study habits to become life-long learners.
